On Conscription

I began the recruitment process to join the Royal Navy in 2017, after my time at undergraduate study. Following the second part of the medical, I failed the eye test due to a lifelong deformity in my left eye (esotropia). Many years later, my views on life, society and work have changed and, one might say, that my anti-work, misanthropy and cynicism have exponentially risen. So now, upon the potential of World War 3, any speak of conscription makes me cringe.

Of course, circumstances matter deeply here. An all-out invasion of one’s own country, one’s own freedoms and way of life, is indeed a direct threat to the population. Fighting back will be necessary here. However, the general idea of sending civilians to fight an overseas war caused by politicians is a farcical double standard.

Since that Navy rejection, I often stated that the government will have the audacity to attempt forcing people like to take up arms to fight their war, after rejecting me for something so pedantic many years ago. I assure you; they can now kiss my arse.
